An Avant-garde Approach to Introduce Organizational Processes
An innovative and infograhic eLearning approach helps familiarize the employees of a global conglomerate with organizational processes.
The Client
Aditya Birla Group (ABG) is a global conglomerate with presence in more than 36 countries. The Fortune 500 Company with annual revenue of US $45 billion in 2014 has been ranked fourth in the world and first in Asia-Pacific in the ‘Top Companies for Leaders’ study. The organization operates across sectors such as Telecommunications, Finance, Trading, Cement, Textile, Chemicals, Agriculture, Power and Metals.
The Requirement
ABG has always focused on implementing the best human resource practices for employees. Some of the measures implemented by ABG in this direction include processes such as the My Development Plan, the Job Evaluation Framework and the Performance Toolkit. ABG realised that it was important to ensure every employee understood these processes and followed them as intended. While the company wanted a digital solution for this requirement, they were clear that this shouldn’t be a typical eLearning course.
The Challenge
In terms of inputs, SKILLDOM received a lot of process documentation from ABG. The challenge was to:
- Understand the Processes: This required understanding all the processes and their details.
- Deliver a solution that would be crisp, catchy and engaging: It was vital to create a story that was crisp, catchy and engaging to present the content in the most engaging way.
- Work with Extremely Stringent Timelines: Since ABG wanted the solution at the earliest possible; SKILLDOM had very aggressive time schedule to work with.
The Solution
SKILLDOM proposed an eLearning solution that had videos developed with rich animation and infographics.
- Breaking up the Processes: SKILLDOM went through the process documents, spoke to the stakeholders and had a detailed walkthrough of the processes. Storyboards were created having specifics of every frame of the video. Given the project requirement and that the video had to be engaging and yet informative, SKILLDOM opted for infographics approach.
- Infographics Approach: The story that we created had to map to these processes. Each process was presented as one single animation video detailing different parts of the process. Team SKILLDOM used RSA animate in addition to infographics approach to present the otherwise drab and technical content in an entertaining way.
- Audio Strategy: In line with the industry standards and approach of creating infographics, these video were extremely rich with background music and audio effects added at every crucial point possible.
The Impact
The benefits were:
- Organization’s complex processes were presented as very easily digestible nuggets of information.
- The videos were able to present all the details of each process in a format that was very easy to understand for all the learners. More importantly, the dry processes were converted into very interesting stories that people could relate to.
