Customer-centric eLearning Program for a Leading Paint Company


An eLearning solution to introduce employees to the customer-centric products portfolio and help them deliver superior services to customers.

The Client

Asian Paints is an Indian multinational company operating in more than 18 countries. The company, which is India’s largest and Asia’s third largest paint company, meets the needs of consumers in over 65 countries. The company with a turnover of Rs. 141.83 billion produces a wide range of products for decorative and industrial purpose in 26 manufacturing facilities across the globe.

The Requirement

Being a customer-centric business, Asian Paints puts customers above everything else. In line with this philosophy, Asian Paints has grouped customers into three categories—End-consumers, Contractors and Builders, and Architects and Interior Designers. The organization wanted to develop an eLearning solution that would ensure employees understood these categories and were able to offer services to the customers accordingly. This is where SKILLDOM stepped in.

The Challenge

The first challenge our instructional design team encountered was the enormous amount of data and inputs shared by the client. These inputs were spread across a number of documents such as product brochures, videos, advertisements and internal training documents. Additionally, SKILLDOM had to go through the client’s existing marketing and commercials available on the Internet to arrive at the final way the content would be packaged. It was important to:

  •   Gain an understanding of the client’s business and the product portfolio
  •   Understand the employee’s level of product knowledge
  •   Analyze the profile of customers belonging to each category

The Solution

  •   Customer-centric Solution: We decided to make customers the heroes of this story and the entire course was ‘seen’ from the customers’ perspective. The course revolved around the painting needs and the challenges of the customers. Using interactive templates, the learners were introduced to the products and the ways in which the customers’ needs would be met.
  •   High Level of Customization: Each feature of the course, right from the GUI elements and Menu to the interactive templates, was custom designed for the paint business. It was important to provide a visually stimulating experience to the learners, considering the domain learners worked in.
  •   Flexible and Adaptive Approach: Throughout the project cycle, SKILLDOM quickly incorporated the feedback and extensive updates that were shared on a regular basis.

The Impact

The client needed an eLearning solution that would not only educate the employees but also help them in selling the company’s products effectively. The benefits of this custom eLearning solution were:

  •   A visually stimulating course that successfully introduced different categories and what products and services worked for each of this category
  •   Improved product knowledge of the employees that helped them pitch relevant products to the customers based on their needs

Thanks to the efficacy and benefits of this eLearning solution, SKILLDOM was awarded more projects by the client.
