Mahindra and Mahindra Induction Program

An Onboarding and Induction Program for Mahindra and Mahindra – An Indian Multinational Automobile Corporation.

A custom eLearning solution to transform classroom-based training program to onboard the employees effectively.

The Client

The Mahindra Group is an Indian multinational company with revenue of US$ 16.9 billion. The organization operates across major businesses such as Automotive and Farm Equipment, Aerospace and Defense, Financial Services, Hospitality, Information Technology, Two Wheelers and Real Estate. The organization’s flagship company Mahindra and Mahindra is a global automobile manufacturer having presence in more than 90 countries across the globe. Mahindra and Mahindra is also the world’s largest tractor company.

The Requirement

Being a global automobile manufacturer, Mahindra and Mahindra constantly engages with employees, dealers and other relevant stakeholders. The company had a comprehensive classroom-based training program for employees, dealers and other relevant stakeholders to help them onboard and induct effectively. The training program was effective; however, it needed to be overhauled to meet upcoming business needs. Moreover, the company wanted to add flexibility to learning. This translated into the need for an eLearning solution that would transform the classroom-based training program into an effective eLearning program.

The Challenge

Mahindra and Mahindra provided SKILLDOM a number of documents, product brochures, training documents, commercials and much more. The challenge was to:

  •   Understand the company’s processes for each employee
  •   Analyze the target audience.
  •   Analyze the classroom-based training program to integrate the relevant part with the online induction program

The Solution

SKILLDOM proposed a custom eLearning solution that simulated classroom environment. The key features of this solution were:

  •   Process-based Program: The eLearning solution was spread across 20 modules that introduced the target audience to different departments and processes. A number of processes helped Mahindra and Mahindra meet the business needs. It was important to provide a comprehensive overview of each process to employees belonging to these processes. Dividing the program into process-based modules not only helped present critical information in short modules but also added more flexibility to the comprehensive program.
  •   Heavy Customization: The eLearning course was heavily customized to Mahindra and Mahindra’s brand guidelines and the course theme. Key elements that were customized included:
  •   Templates: A series of templates customized to automobile business were designed for this eLearning program. The templates not only engaged learners but also helped them relate with the course.
  •   GUI: The GUI was designed as an automobile’s dashboard. Each element of the GUI was planned to details and designed according to an automobile’s interior. This helped simulate an environment similar to a car’s interior and helped the target audience associate well with the program.
  •   The Mascot: A mascot guided learners throughout each module. This helped simulate classroom environment, which in turn helped existing employees transition easily from a classroom-based training program to an eLearning program.

The Impact

The benefits of this solution were:

  •   An eLearning program that provided flexibility to learners in terms of accessibility and convenience
  •   Highly customized solution that introduced target audience to the organization and the organization’s processes
  •   The custom eLearning solution that successfully helped transform the classroom-based training program into an eLearning induction program
